Atkins Diet Quick Hits – Is it possible to overeat on Low Carb?

I wanted to produce a quick hit video on the topic on if it is possible to overeat or said in other words even gain weight while following a ketogenic low carb diet. The short answer is yes. If you eat an Old 96er (from Great Outdoors fame), every night you will absolutely gain weight on this diet. The short term effects are typically that the body will pass the excess fat and food through the system, but as one increases fat intake, two things usually happens. The negative one is protein consumption also typically increases to excess levels, and protein can be converted to glucose through gluconeogenesis. The second one is positive; appetite suppression of ketosis kicks and tells the body and the brain to stop eating. This appetite suppression happens with greater instinct than say if you were over-eating breadsticks at Olive Garden. Imagine John Candy in the referred movie, how much do you think he wanted to eat ounce number 20 or 30, let alone the ounce 96. (6 pounds of meat) His body was telling it’s enough long before he finished the steak. As one increases their carbs in OWL or Maintenance phase, these signals become less pronounced, so the danger of over-eating becomes more likely. However starting out on the diet, trust your body. If your body says food sounds good to eat, eat something legal. It will tell you to stop,

Atkins Diet: Is it possible for vegetarians?

** Remove YT-inserted errant spaces from links below** I have been asked this question two times this week, and I figured if I was getting it from multiple sources there might be more thinking it. It also comes on the heels of the ecoAtkins study (www.sciencedaily.com So is it possible for a vegetarian to do Atkins? I am certainly not the expert on this as I love the meat in my diet as much as the next omnivore, but there are others who certainly are. There is one even on Youtube an Australian lady called lowcarbveggie (www.youtube.com She has some great low carb recipe videos posted here. But how about Atkins specifically with its focus on fat (65% Calories in Induction)? Absolutely…. Especially if you allow dairy and eggs on your diet, an ovo-lacto vegetarian. The quiche (sans the sausage) in the last video or the low carb pizza crust are just as legal for them as for the meat eating low carb. The Atkins Diet features lots of vegetable eating from day one, and there are still sources for good fats (aka all of them except trans fats) in the variety. Just because you are vegetarian doesn’t mean you have to be slave to sugar. I would perhaps caution against a reliance on soy for the protein in your diet. There is developing evidence about the dangers of soy that I haven’t completely made up my mind. Finally, this video is not say this meatless way of eating is any better or worse than others. I just wanted to offer hope to even those who don’t eat meat that they too can
