  • This is one of The Firm’s newer workouts. I purchased this at BestBuy and it came with a green balance trainer which was incredibly difficult to pump up due to the cheap pump that came with it (but at least it came with the DVD). No other equipment is necessary. The instructor is Tina Smalley.

    It has a full 45 minute workout and an “express” 25 minute option.

    The workout alternates some “cardio” and then some core/strength moves. The workout has some step in it using the balance trainer (ie knee lifts, L steps) and some sculpting like squats with one foot on the balance trainer. There are some spots that I found unsafe, like when she jumps onto the balance trainer from the floor, but at least Emily does a beginner modification that doesn’t use these moves. I didn’t find the cardio all that exciting or hard; the strength moves were interesting but I didn’t think they were all that hard either. I was frustrated at some points when you do cardio then you move to the floor to do side planks or push ups, which brings your heart rate down. However, the floor ab work using the balance trainer under the lower back I found very fun and effective.

    Overall this is a workout that I would do on light days. I don’t think you get great sculpting or cardio, but I’m glad I have it in my collection for light days that I want something different.
